Position: Dual Diagnosis Relief Counselor

Agency: In existence since 1971, Bonita House, Inc. is a non-profit social rehabilitation agency providing a full range of services to adults diagnosed with both serious psychiatric disabilities and co-existing substance use disorders.  Bonita House, Inc. administrates Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment site and field based programs at eight locations throughout Alameda County. BHI prides itself on providing clients with evidence-based practices promoting dual-recovery in a client-driven system.

Program Summary: The Residential Program is a 15-bed residential treatment program serving men and women. Staffed 24 hours per day, it serves primarily as a transition from psychiatric hospitalization to the community.

 

Must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field.
  • Certification in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies.
  • One year of experience providing substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment or related social services.


In addition to the above qualifications, the candidate shall meet the following requirements:

  • Must be able to pass community care licensing criteria for employees of residential care facilities.
  • Must be able to meet Immigration Reform Act of 1986 requirements.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of people from the house in the event of an emergency.

Duties:

 

1.                  Performs duties of mental health and substance abuse counselor in an integrated dual-diagnosis treatment program.  As a member of the clinical team, supervises up to 15 adults who are dually diagnosed (psychiatric disability/substance use disorder) within a milieu setting providing ongoing assessment and intervention.

 

2.                  Provides crisis intervention and crisis management services as needed.

 

3.                  Administrative documentation responsibilities include writing daily log notes.

 

4.                  Provides staff coverage as assigned including overnight and weekend shifts.

 

5.                  Participate in occasional outings and holiday events.

 

6.                  Assist in the management, maintenance, up-keep, repair, and furnishing of the house.

 

7.                  Facilitate residents' completion of house jobs and cooking tasks by working with them, acting as coach and teacher as their skill development requires.

 

8.                  Assist residents in monitoring their own medications as prescribed by their physicians per agency policies and procedures.

 

9.                  The nature of this position requires that meal periods be taken "on duty."

 

10.              Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
