A Safe Place to Focus on Recovery
Our 16-bed residential treatment program provides 24/7 structured care for adults living with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, with a team that stays by your side throughout the process.
Intensive Care for the Whole Person
Bonita House’s Residential Treatment Program offers a safe, structured environment for adults who need more support than outpatient care can provide. Using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment, and Seeking Safety, our clinical team works with each resident to build an individualized path toward recovery.
Our staff is committed to the principles of dual-recovery, and have experienced that when evidence-based services are provided in a respectful partnership with clients and their families, recovery from both disorders is possible and attainable. Clients in this program have access to:
- Ongoing assessment, evaluation, and stabilization
- Individual mental and behavioral health counseling
- Intensive day treatment programs
- Dual-diagnosis recovery groups
- Skill-based groups
- Case management
We do not require abstinence as a condition of care. Over 90% of our residents have had contact with the justice system, and our team is experienced in delivering trauma-informed, harm-reduction care to people who have faced significant barriers to treatment. Our goal is not just stabilization. It is lasting recovery, housing stability, and a path back to the community.
Residential Treatment Eligibility
Bonita House’s residential program serves adults living with serious mental illness, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression, who also have a co-occurring substance use disorder. We are a strong fit for individuals transitioning out of psychiatric hospitalization who need a structured step-down level of care. All clients must be Alameda County residents who are eligible for Medi-Cal or county-funded services. Clients must also meet the following criteria:
- Diagnosed with both a severe and persistent psychiatric disorder and a substance use disorder
- Ambulatory and capable of basic self-care
- Willing to commit to recovery and participate in a structured, intensive treatment program
- Clean and sober upon admission (if use occurs just before admission and medical detox is not needed, you are still welcome)
- Able to pay a room and board fee determined by income
- Not a current danger to self or others
