Finding and Keeping a Place to Call Home
Stable housing is one of the most important foundations for long-term recovery. Bonita House connects clients to housing resources and provides the ongoing support to help make stability last.
Housing is the Foundation for Recovery
Without stable housing, it is nearly impossible to focus on mental health, stay connected to treatment, or build toward independence. Bonita House operates 31 units of permanent supportive housing. We accept some referrals through coordinated entry and accept direct section 8 applications at one of our properties.
Because housing placement is managed through referral networks and community partners, Bonita House does not directly control unit availability. What we do control is the quality of support we provide before, during, and after the housing search.
How We Support the Housing Journey
Housing support services are available to Bonita House clients who are experiencing housing instability or homelessness, or who are transitioning from residential treatment, hospitalization, or incarceration. From the initial search to long-term stability, our team works alongside clients to connect them to housing resources and community partners across Alameda County, coordinating closely with our other programs, including SIL, Outpatient Care, and IHOT, so that housing support is never separate from the rest of a client’s care. We work with housing clients to provide:
- Help navigating applications, paperwork, and eligibility requirements
- Case management and life skills support during housing transitions
- Ongoing support to help clients maintain housing long-term
Housing Services Eligibility
Referrals are through the Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services ACCESS Program, the system-wide point of contact for information, screening, and referrals for mental health and substance use services. Bonita House provides permanent supportive housing services for Alameda County residents that fit the following criteria:
- Single adults 18+ with severe mental health and substance use issues
- Individuals with a stable source of income, such as SSI (Supplemental Security Income), SSA (Social Security Administration), SSDI, employment, etc
- Able to function in minimally supervised group living
