Residential Treatment Program
Dual Diagnosis Residential Treatment Program
In 1971, Bonita House opened the first psychiatric Residential Treatment program of its kind in Alameda County. The program was originally designed as an alternative to hospitalization for people diagnosed with serious mental illness. Over the years, the behavioral health community recognized that many individuals with psychiatric disorders also suffered from substance use disorders, and began developing treatment models to address both disorders concurrently. In 1991, the agency transformed its programs to provide treatment for individuals with this dual diagnosis.
Bonita House Inc.’s staff is cross-trained in evidence-based Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) practices that address both mental health and substance use intervention, treatment, and recovery. Bonita House has been considered a leader in the field of Dual Diagnosis Treatment, both locally and nationally, for over thirty years.
Bonita House’s licensed clinicians, mental health rehabilitation specialists, and other support staff provide services that are collaborative, person-centered, and individualized. The focus is on helping residents build the skills necessary to increase their ability to function in the living, learning, working, and social environment of their choice.
